Welcome to Bluebird Lane Fjords! We are a
Norwegian Fjord Horse farm located in Southern
Ontario, Canada.
Situated on a scenic 50 acres,
Bluebird Lane is run by the
husband and wife team of life-long horse people,
Lori Albrough and Stefan Vorkoetter.
Fjords are our passion, and we are proud of
our breeding and training programs.
Our breeding stock are European imported and evaluated, and
we raise and train their offspring
to be your next performance partner and best friend.
And we are doing dressage with our Fjord Horses!
Lori is an active dressage rider,
showing her Fjord Prisco at Third Level.
Lori is
coached by
Ute Busse
and her daughter
Tina Irwin,
both short-listed for the Canadian Team in 2006!

We train all year round, and compete our Fjords at both the local
and the national level. Our Fjords are earning good scores,
nice comments from the judges, and numerous championships and awards.
The 2006 show season is now behind us and we are grateful to have had another
fabulous year with our Fjordhorses.
Prisco and Lori enjoyed some great results at Third Level on the National
cirucuit,
including two Championships and one
Reserve Champion at Palgrave!
The year culminated with Prisco receiving Dressage Canada's Silver Medal
Achievement Award for high scores earned!

Also in 2006, our home-bred mare Bluebird Lane
Kestrel made her show-ring debut in the National ring.
Kestrel really rose to the occasion and exceeded our high hopes for her!
She achieved scores over 70%, and at her first
show ever topped a 23 horse field
to win a
Championship at Training Level at Palgrave!
Then, at the NFHR 25th Anniversary National Fjord Show, Kestrel
won the Grand Champion Mare award over a very large field!
By the end of 2006, Kestrel had joined Prisco
to become the second
Fjord ever to be named to Dressage Canada's Horse Awards list, receiving her
Bronze Medal Achievement Award!
What an absolutely fabulous year with our home-bred and -trained mare!

In addition to training and showing our Fjords in dressage,
we enjoy hacking and pleasure drives
on the backroads, trails, and around the nearby lake.
We hope you enjoy visiting our website and learning more about our
Fjordhorses for Sport and Pleasure.
Feel free to
contact us for help or information.
As seen in the pages of "Dressage Today" magazine!
The picture at left of Lori and Prisco warming up for the
National Dressage Show at Eastwood appeared in
Dressage Today magazine - along with an informative
article "Fjords do Dressage" by Reina Abelshauser.
We were thrilled to have the word about our
breeding and training program,
spread in such a prestigious publication.
The success that a well-bred and well-trained Fjord Horse
can achieve in dressage is becoming no secret!

Prisco and Lori
|
Prisco & Lori have received both their Bronze
Medal and Silver Medal awards from Dressage Canada
for their performances in
National Dressage Competitions.
What an honour to be the recipient of these awards.
It has been so much fun to take Prisco out
and introduce so many new
people to a fabulous Fjordhorse who really does
"do it all".
And with his good looks, great movement, and natural
charisma, Prisco is proving himself to be a
"Fjord Ambassador" extraordinaire!
At Bluebird Lane our breeding program is based on our outstanding mares.
We are in agreement with those experienced horsepeople who believe that 60%
of the foal comes from the mare. Our experience has certainly borne
out the importance of the mare's contribution to the offspring!
Accordingly, each of our mares was chosen for her exceptional qualities in
conformation, movement, breed type, temperament, performance, and pedigree.
We only breed the type of quality Fjord mare that we ourselves love to ride,
drive, show, and enjoy!
Our mare band includes imported daughters of such top European
stallions as Myrstein, Halstor, and Ostar, all with champion predicate
dam lines.
We believe in the value of proven pedigrees, and you will see
this in the quality of Fjordhorse we produce.
|
We breed for an athletic Fjord Horse, well suited to a variety of
disciplines. As participants in the sport and art of dressage,
athletic ability and movement
matter a great deal to us. At the same time, as breeders,
breed type and character
remains our first guiding principle.
This means that the horses we breed are, first and foremost,
Fjordhorses. They retain the character, the conformation, and
the hardy, sure-footed, easy-keeping nature of their Norwegian
ancestors which date back thousands of years.
|
|
|
|
The Fjordhorse must be true to type.
|
|
|
Its conformation must be functional and its use versatile.
|
|
|
It must have a good temperament and be hardy and sound.
|
|
|
We must keep the Fjordhorse purebred...
|
|
|
Preserve the original colours of the breed and the primitive
markings, and...
|
|
|
Avoid white markings which are not typical for the breed.

Our Baby Book
|
A great big welcome to Bluebird Lane Storjo, born on May 23, 2007!
Storjo's sire is Saethersblakken and his dam is Rjelgrimm, a Myrstein daughter.
Take a look at the pedigree of this young fellow! Two 1.pr grandparents on
top, and an Elite grandsire and ster, prestatie granddam on
the bottom. Storjo embodies everything we were hoping to accomplish with this
mating!
Check out our Arrivals Page
to see pictures and pedigree of Storjo.

Norway
|
What a spectacularly beautiful country Norway is!
We fell in love with the country on our visits to the Fjord region
of Norway to attend the stallion and youngstock evaluations.
In 1999, Lori took part in the International Judges Conferences
in Nordfjordeid and
received a Diploma in Fjordhorse Judging from the Norges Fjordhestlag.

Born Broke?
|
|
The Fjordhorse in general has a calm temperament, is intelligent,
tractable, and very very trainable.
But, born broke? Simply not true!
The Fjordhorse is still a horse, and all
horses need training. To let anyone tell you different is not safe and
it's just not fair to the animal.
At Bluebird Lane all of our horses are trained by Lori.
Training begins at birth
and continues with age-appropriate training for all.
Our horses are handled daily, and taught to be mannerly,
attentive, and responsive.

training program.

Felix Has a New Home!
|
As members of The Felix Group, we congratulate Susan Cargill
and Longtheway Farm on their recent purchase of the outstanding
Norwegian breeding stallion FELIX.
This superior stallion was born in 1993
and approved in Nordfjordeid in 1996.
His sire is Haugjo 1.pr and
his dam is Ella, 2.pr daughter of Eldar 2.pr.
At his three year old evaluation, Felix was judged by a panel of
visiting international judges. Nine of the eleven judges placed him first in
quality over all the other stallions; the other two judges placed him second.
Felix has had six sons approved as breeding stallions in Norway, including
Norway's top 8 year old stallion in 2005:
Ljosprins 1.pr! Other well known sons include Kviablakken 2.pr, and
Halse Vildar 3.pr. Felix's
highly rated daughers include Mette Fra Skarhaug 2.pr,
Halse Lenda 3.pr, the red dun mare Herjublakka 3.pr,
and Krovels Lilja 3.pr.
Felix's sons and daughters have been shown to inherit his
exceptional breed type, conformation, and movement, and
they have consistently been
ranked as superior representatives of the breed.
Each member of The Felix Group has retained some Felix offspring
for their own breeding program. As Felix now moves on to bring his
outstanding genetics to the Midwestern United States, we wish
Longtheway Farm all the best with this fabulous stallion!
