Norwegian Fjord horse fans the world over were thrilled and excited when Disney’s upcoming animated movie, Frozen, was announced. The reason for this excitement? This new movie is set in Norway and the prince, Hans, rides a Fjord horse. Oh my!! But, how many of us can say our own Fjord horse was used in the production design?

The Bluebird Lane team just got back from our last show of the year, the Caledon Dressage August Silver Show! What a great time we had at the show, especially with the beautiful weather all weekend.

Finger Lakes Fjord Show

by Lori Albrough

It had been far too long since our summer schedule has allowed us to venture down to upper New York State for the Finger Lakes show. This year, with our intern Janina Klingelhoefer being here from Germany, we really wanted to make it happen. The date was free, my passport arrived the week before, and everything just kind of came together at the last moment for us to go.

We set off with two horses, our gelding Ooruk and mare Bluebird Lane Kestrel. The plan was that I would show Ooruk and Janina would show Kestrel.

We had a great time showing at the Caledon Dressage Silver Show in Orangeville this weekend, July 6 and 7!

Fresh off our recent clinics with Christian Garweg and Ashley Holzer, I was feeling confident and well-prepared. In our first test, Second Level Test One, Ooruk and I had a great go and won our class with a super score of 76.714%!

Ontario Has Talent!

by Lori Albrough

This still feels like a fairy tale to me, even now! But it’s true! What an amazing opportunity it was, and I am ever so grateful to the Ontario Has Talent group.

Christian Garweg Clinic

by Lori Albrough

I had the opportunity to ride in a clinic with German dressage trainer Christian Garweg today. Christian boasts a very impressive resume of both students and teachers, and in January this year I went to watch him teaching a nearby clinic. I found him extremely perceptive in his ability to quickly zero in on what a combination’s “core issue” was, as well as innovative and effective in his recommended exercises to make improvements. He struck me as one of the most “outside the box” dressage trainer I had ever seen.

Fjord Horses in Horse Illustrated Magazine

by Lori Albrough

What is it about Horse Illustrated magazine, with its glossy photos of gorgeous horses, that makes you feel like a horse-crazy kid again? You can just see a young version of yourself cutting out the centerfold, pinning it to your wall, and immersing yourself for hours in an imaginary tale that you, Alec Ramsey style, are the only person that is able to tame and ride that magnificent and noble beast.

Well, I’ve got the flip side of that story. Imagine opening up Horse Illustrated and finding your very own home-bred, raised, and trained horse strutting his stuff in the magazine’s centerfold!? That’s what happened to me this month. Right now my inner horse-crazy kid is doing the happy dance!

Prisco : A Super-Star of the Fjord Breed!

Prisco Fjord Head Shot

by Lori Albrough

Prisco was a very influential horse in my life. I bought him in the summer of 2000 when he was five years old, from my friend Julia (Julie) Will.

Julie imported Prisco from Holland in 1996 as a yearling, when she was over there looking at horses with Vivian Creigh. Julie had been looking for a junior stallion prospect who had the ability to sire grey offspring. At the time her senior stallion was the grey, MVF Erlend. Julie was hoping to find a high quality colt that they could breed Erlend daughters to.
